Drinking Tonight: La Ferme Julien Blanc

This is a basic white Rhone blend that Trader Joe’s has carried for years. I’m drinking the 2012 AOC Luberon, purchased for $7.50 – a blend of Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Ugni Blanc, and Roussanne. I’m having this with crab-stuffed flounder and some roasted asparagus.

Color: plain straw yellow.

Aroma: floral perfume with some stone fruit underneath.

Taste: medium-bodied, with apricot and white peach, lots more floral characteristics, and a little more acidity on the finish.  Good length with some vanilla/toast notes.

I wish this had some Marsanne or Viognier to plump out the body, but a nice alternative dinner white for under $10.  A good choice serving it with the crab, which would overwhelm a lot of other white wines.
