Drinking Tonight: Chateau Poyanne

A cheap 2011 ( < $10 ) Cotes du Bourg – that’s right bank Bordeaux – from Trader Joe’s.  Having this with flank steak tonight.

Color: average red; plenty of Merlot in this, I’m guessing.

Aroma:  cherry and oak, some noticeable alcohol.  Aha – it’s 13.5% on the back label.

Taste: decent length, but the balance and integration on are off. Fruit dies off into acid, then kicks back in at the finish.  Not enough tannin to age it for any length of time in the hope that it would settle in, either.

Nothing really wrong with this, but there’s better out there for the money.
